BEIJING, CHINA – The Chinese foreign ministry today announced that the country will ban all foreign travelers from visiting the country as COVID-19 cases soar across the motherland.  Chinese officials said the ban is temporary and will automatically be lifted on Sunday, February 20th.

“It’s unfortunate, but we are in the middle of a COVID-19 pandemic from a virus that is being imported from around the world into our nation,” the ministry said. “We’re still looking forward to hosting our Olympic games and invite the world to watch, it should be great Olympics for our comrades.”

With less than a few dozen foreign athletes in the country ahead of the official start of the Olympics, China has already declared its hockey team as the gold medal winner of 2022. One team that managed to arrive ahead of the ban was the Jamaican bobsled team, now predicted to win its first gold medal since they started competing in the event in 1992.
